from the wikipedia entry on the Casimir Effect: "Exotic matter with negative energy density is required to stabilize a wormhole. Morris, Thorne and Yurtsever pointed out that the quantum mechanics of the Casimir effect can be used to produce a locally mass-negative region of space-time, and suggested that negative effect could be used to stabilize a wormhole to allow faster than light travel."
Isn't this juicy bone that TPTB threw us this summer just great?! I can really get into this train of thought in the plot and most of LOST fans can too. I just hope that the unscientific masses (who are still unbelieving that LOST is part SciFi) will keep watching, to help keep up the ratings.
I just call him Dr.Candlewickwax now. But the big question is, has he been duplicated like Bunny-15 a-la The Prestige? I guess that they could only call the original one Candle, and then the rest are a variation thereof?

"Dammit Jim, I'm a scientist, not an actor!" :o)
